Washington University in St. Louis The full phrase, Washington University in St. Louis, is to be used on first reference for externally distributed publications. The University, Washington U., or WUSTL is acceptable in later references. Avoid using Washington or WU. NEVER use Wash U.
   
Washington University Libraries Washington University Libraries encompasses the John M. Olin Library, which is the center of the library system, and 13 specialized libraries.
   
Washington University in St. Louis Magazine Use full name on first reference; Washington University Magazine or the magazine is acceptable for later references.
   
Web

Web is acceptable in all references to the World Wide Web.

Preferred usage is web site, web page.

Preferred use for a web address is placing it in boldface type or in a second color (if available): “You are welcome to visit our web site, www.wustl.edu, to learn more about Washington University in St. Louis.” (Note: Preferred use is without “http://” since this is not needed to get to the site.)
