years “2000–01” (not repeating the century) is preferred to “2000–2001.” When denoting the year a degree was awarded, use a space after the abbreviation for the degree and then the apostrophe in place of the deleted century numbers (e.g., AB ’99).

Z

zip code Preferred use is lowercase, with the “z” capitalized at the beginning of sentences and on forms as style dictates. Do not put a comma between the state name and the zip code (e.g., St. Louis, MO 63130-4899).
